Rewards Offered for Missing Cape Hatteras Photos

Comments?

We are still offering a $250 cash reward for a photograph of North Carolina's first Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Built in 1803, the lighthouse was blown up shortly after the second Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was completed in 1870.

Several people have sent us artist rendition paintings and pen and ink sketches. However, what we want is an actual photograph.

Both lighthouses stood together, near each other, for a short time and there must be some photographs of the original lighthouse somewhere.

We are also raising the reward for the first of the following photographs. The reward has be raised from $100 gift certificates to $250 gift certificates to Lighthouse Depot for the first photographs received of the following:

1. A photograph that shows the original Cape Hatteras Lighthouse being blown up.

2. A photograph of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse before the stripes were added.

3. A photograph of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse while the stripes were being added.

We are also raising the reward for any log book of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse that is donated to the American Lighthouse Foundation. The donor will receive a $250 gift certificate for merchandise for the Lighthouse Depot Catalog for any log book from Cape Hatteras Lighthouse sent to the American Lighthouse Foundation, P.O. Box 889, Wells, Maine 04090.

Remember, these photographs might be located anywhere. You do not have to live in a lighthouse area to find one of these photos. Rare lighthouse artifacts have been found in antique stores, used book stores, attics, and old trunks all across America.

Photographs must be sent via registered mail to: Editor, Lighthouse Digest, P.O. Box 1690, Wells, Maine 04090.

If you have any questions you can e-mail our editor at TimH@lhdigest.com or call 207-646-0515 and ask to speak to anyone in the Lighthouse Digest editorial department.
