In this issue, as in past issues, we have again published a large number of historical photos and informative text that have never been published before. This is history that has been rediscovered and now permanently saved for future generations.
This is just a small sampling of what we have discovered in recent months with so much more yet to be published in future editions of Lighthouse Digest. One such example is a recently discovered album of over 150 rare photos taken by a man and his daughter who served as lighthouse keepers at three different remote lighthouses for 25 years in the very early 1900s. These photos and the researched stories behind them, as well as several thousand other recently discovered photos and information from lighthouse keeper manuscripts, have yet to be published.
Due to an aging subscriber base that is not being replaced by the younger generation, the cost of publishing Lighthouse Digest is now exceeding the paid subscription income, which places in jeopardy the future discovery, publishing, and saving of historical photos and information. Currently there is no organization or individual in the United States who is researching, documenting, and publishing lighthouse history to the extent that we are. And, if we don’t do it, who will? The current answer is no one.
The best way for Lighthouse Digest to continue its mission of researching and publishing lighthouse history is through your generous ongoing or year-end tax deductible donations, which can be made online at www.LighthouseHistoryResearch.org or by calling us at (207)259-2121.
