If all goes according to plan, the two lighthouses in Muskegon, Michigan, currently owned by the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy, will eventually have their ownership transferred to the City of Muskegon.

“The city is in a better position to oversee the restoration and long care of the lighthouses,” said Jeff Shook, president of the Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy. The outer Muskegon South Breakwater Lighthouse was recently awarded $800,000 in state funding for repairs.

There is already a dedicated group of volunteers in place who are managing lighthouse tours, as well as an onshore gift shop.
