Repair work has begun at Long Island New York’s 1858 Fire Island Lighthouse that suffered storm damage this past March, as we reported with dramatic photos, in the last issue of Lighthouse Digest.

AJCE Corp was awarded the contract for the removal of the separated shotcrete panels, and the brick rubble located on the northeast side of the lighthouse terrace.

After the removal project was completed, Lee Construction began the stabilization work to wrap the lower remaining, white day-marker part of the tower, with a steel-cable-mesh system, until further assessments with monitoring devices can be made to record the movement of the tower, along with humidity, temperature and moisture levels.
