The descendants of the Keepers of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse are invited to a special weekend at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on May 4-5, co-sponsored by the National Park Service and the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society. If you are a descendant or know of one, you can contact the planning committee by email at hattkeep@outer-banks.com or by calling or faxing co-chair Lyn Jennette at 252-995-6891 or by writing to HKDH at P.O. Box 550, Buxton, NC 27920.

Between 1802 and the 1930’s, nearly 100 different families lived at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, yet no photographs exist prior to 1893, and photographs of only three of the keepers have been located to date. The Outer Banks Lighthouse Society launched a nationwide search to find descendants of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse with the goal of publishing a history about them. If you have information that could help them please contact Cheryl Shelton Roberts, P.O. Box 550, Buxton, NC 27920 or email her at Croberts@outer-banks.com

The Light Was Their Signature a poster from a painting by artist Glenn Eure is a true classic. It is available as a poster with all the proceeds going to help defray the cost of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Homecoming, which is an all-volunteer effort. The poster, which measures 16”x 20”, can be ordered for $11.45, which includes postage, and is shipped rolled in a tube, ready for framing, from Eastern National Bookstore, P.O. Box 860, Buxton, NC 27920. (North Carolina residents must add 6% sales tax) Credit card orders can be placed by calling 252-995-5610. We encourage our readers to help in this fund raising effort. In years to come this poster is sure to be a highly sought after collectible.
