Although the caption on this photo says the cresset was used until 1790, Peter Williams, in his book "Beacon on the Rock," writes that it was in use until 1809. He adds that the cresset is now on display on the adjacent island of Tresco in the Isles of Scilly and is one of the few remaining examples of this type of basket.
