This month’s cover photo is of Palmer Island Lighthouse in which stands at the entrance of New Bedford, Harbor, MA outside the nation’s largest fishing port. Shown in the image is the vessel Determination, a scalloper, out of New Bedford, as it heads out to sea. Beyond the boat is the shore of Fairhaven, MA. New Bedford is one of New England’s most historic maritime cities with many historic sites and is home to the world famous New Bedford Whaling Museum. The city has two other lighthouses, Butler Flats and Clark’s Point, both restored by the city without taxpayer money. Lighthouse aficionados will recall New Bedford as the site of the International Lighthouse cosponsored by the American Lighthouse Foundation and City of New Bedford. Cover photo is by Dan Orchard, courtesy of the The Fisherman’s Call a trade publication for the commercial fishing community of southern New England, www.fishermanscall.com
