Photo Caption:

This is a sketch of the Compass Rose that will be positioned next to the Oak Orchard River as it flows out to Lake Ontario. Approximately ten feet in diameter, it will be cut from red Medina sandstone, utilizing historic stone from the nearby Village of Albion, quarried locally many years ago and salvaged from recently replaced sidewalks. The compass points will be blue and white cut granite. Embracing the Compass Rose will be 4 Medina sandstone benches, also of historic local stone, hand cut by one of the last local stonecutters, George Graham. The old cast iron fuel house, long kept safe by the Cobblestone Museum in Gaines, NY; will once again john the lighthouse, to complete the circle. Sketch courtesy of Oak Orchard Lighthouse Museum.
