The crew of the Plum Island Life Saving Service Station in Massachusetts. O’Connor wrote about the exploits of men like this. Launching there boats to rescue victims of shipwrecks, their motto was "You have to go out, but you don’t have to come back." In other words, it was their responsibility to save lives even if it meant they would have to give up their life to do so. They were the bravest of the brave. Back to the edition of: June 2009
