This vintage post card shows what Maine’s Goat Island Lighthouse looked like in the 1950s. The enclosed walkway from the house to the tower and the old bell tower are long gone. Plans call for them to be rebuilt. The current Goat Island tower was built in 1859 to replace an earlier stone tower. During both Bush presidencies, the Secret Service used the lighthouse as a base to guard nearby Walker’s Point, a family summer home of the Bush family. Back to the edition of: September 2009
