Cape May Lighthouse was first lit on October 31, 1859. It is the third tower to occupy the site. The first tower, erected in 1823, toppled into the sea, a victim of erosion. The second tower, a 78-foot tall structure was built in 1847, but was poorly constructed and was replaced by the current tower. Back to the edition of: December 2009
