When Crabtree Ledge Lighthouse near Hancock Point in Frenchmans Bay, Maine was decommissioned, it was sold in the 1930s. The new owner, after being marooned on the lighthouse for seven days upon his first visit, never returned to the lighthouse. Although the exact cause of its collapse remains a mystery, it is speculated that it was a result of years of neglect. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
