The Rebecca Shoal Lighthouse between Sand Key and Dry Tortugas Florida was automated in 1925. Without any proper care, the lighthouse fell into a state of disrepair, and in 1953 it was decided to demolish the lighthouse. However, the lantern was saved and now sits atop a privately owned lighthouse in Key Largo, Florida. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
