Boston lighthouse keeper William “Mike” F. Mikelonis posed for this staged photo for a newspaper story about Boston Lighthouse that appeared in the Worcester Sunday Telegram in 1965. BM1 Mikelonis was the 45th lighthouse keeper to serve at Boston Lighthouse. He served there from 1962 to April of 1967. A World War II veteran, he served on a Coast Guard escort cutter in the Pacific and at a base in Lyautey, Morocco. While stationed at Boston Light, he said he witnessed waves hit both sides of the pier and meet 16 feet in the air. “Mike” worked under the watchful eye of CWO Kenneth Black, the Group Commander of the Point Allerton Coast Guard Station, a man whom he said, “I have a lot of respect for.”
