Paul Baptiste, along with his daughter Nanette and wife Helen, in the lighthouse jeep at Maine’s Monhegan Island Lighthouse (circa 1952-1954). Shortly after they arrived at Monhegan Island, Paul received orders to paint the lantern red and the rails green, which he did. The locals did not like change and complained to Paul, who told them there was nothing he could do about it - he was just following orders. Several days later, Paul received orders to repaint the lantern back to its original black. It seems the locals had gotten got their way. Interestingly, today the lantern cupola is painted red and the railings are green. (Baptiste Family Collection, Lighthouse Digest archives.)
