Photo Caption:

Orlo Hayward’s son Joe had a life-long interest in cars, and later spent his career working in the automotive industry. When he was seven-years-old, Orlo taught him to drive the Model A pickup that ended up being dumped over the bluff at Cape Blanco Lighthouse when it was still in operating condition. He is seen here having his “first driving lesson” at Slip Point Lighthouse in 1928. (Hayward Family Collection.)
