The 135-foot-tall Alligator Reef Lighthouse, four miles east of Indian Key near Islamorda, Florida, was completed in 1873. The white tower cost $83,000 to build, which is the equivalent today of $1,850,000. It was automated in 1963. Back to the edition of: Jan/Feb 2019
