The 1875 Egg Rock Lighthouse at the entrance to Maine’s Frenchman Bay near Bar Harbor, Maine, where William H. C. Dodge served from 1912 to 1916. According to the “Dodge Family Journal,” by Stephan Allen Dodge, in 1940 William Dodge recalled a storm that occurred while he was there that sent giant waves over lighthouse. Dodge’s boat and two others at the lighthouse were smashed to pieces. Giant waves broke through the heavy shutters of the keeper’s quarters – flooding and destroying everything in the house.
