George Dewey Cody, named after Admiral George Dewey, was born September 19, 1899 on Bedloe’s Island to assistant lighthouse keeper Martin F. Cody and his wife, Lizzie. George started out in the “family business” as an electrical contractor, but later worked as a film manager at Metropolitan Life where his brother Charles and Charles N. Miller had also worked. The photo shows him standing next to “Rhoda” in 1964. (Courtesy of Patricia Riley Perrella.)
