On June 19, 1951, the Bergen Point Lighthouse tower was blown up, totally destroying all vestiges of what was once a proud light station where keepers and their families once lived and dedicated themselves to the safety of others. Amazingly, no efforts were made to save the lantern, which today would have been a great historical artifact to be viewed by future generations.
