Photo Caption:

National Medal of Arts recipient Alfred Eisenstaedt, who was a noted photographer for LIFE Magazine, was genuinely involved in helping to raise money to save three of the lighthouses on Martha’s Vineyard. One of the fundraising events was named “Eisenstaedt Day.” Eisenstaedt is probably best known for his famous V-J Day Time Square photograph taken on August 14, 1945 when the war against Japan was officially over.
