William Asbury Crockett served for a decade between 1890 and 1914 as an assistant keeper at five Chesapeake Bay lighthouses: Craighill Channel Lower Range Front, MD; Solomons Lump, MD; Holland Island Bar, MD; Smith Point, VA and Tangier Sound, VA. His odds of having a serious mishap were increased since these were all offshore stations but it was somewhat ironic that he died at Tangier Sound Light in familiar waters so close to his family home.
