In 1872, lighthouse keeper Avery Gilkey was fired from Maine’s 1851 Grindle Point Lighthouse for having no interest in his duties. This structure no longer stands. It was replaced in 1874 by the tower that stands there today. (Lighthouse Digest archives) Back to the edition of: Sep/Oct 2021
