“Boot,” the Heron Neck Lighthouse dog who belonged to Heron Neck Coast Guard light keeper FN Larry Smart, is shown on the porch of the keeper’s house and sleeping on the sofa with his head on a pillow. The indoor image shows the typical inferior paneling on the walls that the Coast Guard installed at many lighthouses. Sadly, while on shore leave, “Boot” was hit by a car and died from his injuries.
