Photo Caption:
In 1856, California’s Point Bonita Lighthouse was the first West Coast lighthouse to use a cannon as its fog signal. The cannon proved to be impractical and was soon replaced by a fog bell. Seen faintly in the distance is the tower of the first Point Bonita Lighthouse, which was replaced in 1877 by the tower that stands there today.
