The Point Cabrillo Lighthouse was lighted for the first time at midnight on June 10, 1909. The first keeper, Wilhelm Baumgartner, a bachelor, invited nearby residents to a midnight supper celebration with a meal prepared by Ethel Bassett, wife of assistant keeper George C. Bassett.
