LeRoy White wrote that three weeks following his high school graduation in 1929, he took his first job as the official assistant keeper at Point Hueneme Light under his father, substituting for the regular assistant keeper on vacation. This photo was labeled as being taken at Point Sur, where LeRoy would have been either substitute keeping again or working as an engineer at the lighthouse. He additionally substituted at four other District 18 California lighthouses: Ballast Point Light, Los Angeles Harbor Light, San Luis Obispo Light and Farallon Island Light.
