Keeper Charles W. Thurston, born December 7, 1852 in Tremont, Maine, started with the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1895 at Mount Desert Rock. He transferred to Saddleback Ledge Light in 1900 for two years, then moved on to Crabtree Ledge Light for seven years. His final station was Rockland Breakwater Light for only a few months in 1909 when he retired from the Service after a total of 14 years.
