Veteran lighthouse keeper Charles Henry Williams (1876-1946), shown here, was the head keeper of the Sanibel Island Light Station from 1913 to 1923 during the time when his assistant keeper Richard T. Barry was shot to death by a local carpenter named Jesse W. Lee. It is unclear if Charles Williams was on Sanibel Island at the time of the shooting or was away on business. In 1923, Williams became the keeper of the Boca Grande Lighthouse in Boca Grande, Florida where he served until his retirement in 1932.
