In the forefront is the old Beacon Light and in the background the Calcasieu River Light, Louisiana. The keeper was responsible for both lighthouses. The building to the left is Rogers' Gulf Hotel. The lighthouses keepers had a rowboat that they could use to row to the beacon light to light it at dusk. There was also a walking trail along the river which the keepers sometimes used. A boardwalk was extended southward from the hotel to the beacon light to accommodate the lighthouse keepers.
