The Waackaack Rear Range Lighthouse served as the rear range light for the Old Orchard Shoal Lighthouse. In the 1950s when it was deemed obsolete, it was eventually put up for auction. The high bid of $280.00 was rejected by the government and the lighthouse was torn down. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
