Photo Caption:

Baltimore Lighthouse is shown here in 1964 shortly before a nuclear generator was installed in the lighthouse. When this photo was taken, the fog bell was still in place and the Fresnel lens is shown still in place in the lantern room. Interestingly, some reports say that fog bell was replaced by an automated fog horn many years before this photo was taken, so the fog bell must have remained at the lighthouse, even though it was not used or the photo in the archives was incorrectly dated. The whereabouts of the fog bell and the lens are not known. The Baltimore Lighthouse is a near twin to the Point No Point Lighthouse that was built in 1905 in the Chesapeake Bay at the entrance to the Potomac River near Dameron, Maryland. In some photographs it is often hard to tell them apart. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
