THEN: “Sandi was aware of an article in the Saturday Evening Post from March 9th, 1946, so she ordered it. There were two pictures that I thought you might be interested in seeing.” The caption reads “Mrs. Martha Hellwig has no time for loneliness, keeps busy cooking, cleaning and enjoying life.” (You readers can fill in your own comments here better than I could!) “The article talked about this being a coal fired heater. When we were there, it was a different heater and it was propane.” Martha’s husband was Charles E. Hellwig. He was Head Keeper at the Point. Conception Lighthouse from 1944 to 1955.
