Cape Blaine Horrocks, U.S. Coast Guard, Chief, First District, Aids to Navigation Branch, presents a Coast Guard Commendation to Herb Jason for his years of work preserving our nation’s maritime heritage and artifacts. Capt. Herb Jason was the principle force behind the Minot Keepers Memorial. Jason spent over 60 years on the water fishing for both fish and lobster. He was a founding member and delegate of the Massachusetts Lobsterman’s Association. For many years during the winter months he worked as a coppersmith. He is an active member of the community who has dedicated his life to preserving the history and heritage of mans life to the sea. He was also instrumental in the building of the Minot Light lantern room replica on Government Island, which now houses the Fresnel lens from the lighthouse.
