This vintage post card shows a much different pier at the South Haven Lighthouse as the passenger ferry SS City of South Haven goes past the tower. During the World War I era, the City of South Haven became a transport ship for the U.S. Navy. Later its name was changed to SS City of Miami and it operated as a civilian passenger ship between Florida and Cuba. Eventually the vessel returned to the Great Lakes and was renamed the SS E.G. Crosby. The vessel was scrapped in 1942 after a devastating fire. Back to the edition of: May/Jun 2015
