The art deco style Minneapolis Shoal Lighthouse was built in 1936 in Green Bay in Lake Michigan. Staffed by a crew of three or four men at a time, the tower was originally all white. Living on a concrete slab that was surrounded by water, the men stationed here had to keep busy to avoid boredom. However, they were given extra time off allowances for the days served here. The last keepers were removed in 1979 when full automation took place at the station. The 4th order Fresnel lens that was once in the tower was removed many years ago. This photo of the lighthouse by Jerry Biggs was taken in May of 2002.
