This image of the Southwest Ledge Lighthouse from the archives of Lighthouse Digest was taken in 1903. At that time the lighthouse was lighted with a 4th order Fresnel lens. If you look closely, you will notice a fog horn protruding from the upper section of the lighthouse and the fog bell was also still in place and the shades or curtains were drawn in the lantern.
