Rip Irwin has made it his mission to save the Sambro Island lighthouse. Irwin spent two years lobbying for heritage protection for the 242-year-old stone tower at the entrance to Halifax Harbour. The lighthouse was refurbished by the Canadian Coast Guard in 1998, but Irwin says the rest of the island needs to be revitalized and protected. He’s not giving up.
