This view of Orient Point Light shows the new solar panels at the lighthouse. The number of solar panels and batteries required is dependent upon the equipment installed at the lighthouse; including type and size of the lamp and lantern, type and number of fog signal horn, presence of a fog detector, emergency lighting requirements, the automated remote monitoring system, and several other factors.
At Orient Point the fueling equipment and various external piping has been removed from the tower. Also, the protruding and ugly exhaust hoods for the generators that stuck out of the windows have been removed and replaced with less obtrusive vents. All of this gives to a better appearance of the structure as well as improving the site. Photograph by Lt. Christian Lund, USCG, CEU, Providence, RI.
