This month’s cover photo, taken by Mark Anderson of Carneys Point, NJ, is of the beautiful Fire Island Lighthouse, New York.
In 1981, the abandoned Fire Island Lighthouse was declared unsafe and slated for demolition. However, thanks to the efforts of the Fire Island Preservation Society and the National Park Service the necessary funds were raised to restore and save the structure. It is now open to the public.
