The trip to the lighthouse in a small fishing boat can only be accomplished at the time of slack water – the short period between flood and ebb tide – as at other times a current of eight to 10 knots prevails. Embarking and disembarking has to be done very quickly to avoid the boat being dashed to pieces on one of the many reefs. Back to the edition of: March 2005
