Lighthouse keeper Captain Joseph M. Gray who served at Crabtree Ledge, Mount Desert Rock, Great Duck Island, Marshall Point, and Bass Harbor Head lighthouses in Maine. He joined the United States Lighthouse Service in 1898 beginning at Crabtree Ledge Light. He served at various lights over the years until March 1938, when he retired as head keeper at Bass Harbor Head Light. He was lighthouse keeper in the U.S. Lighthouse Service for an amazing 40 years.
