Among the guests at the grand opening of the Maine Lighthouse Museum's CWO Kenneth Black Exhibition Hall, were Holly and Lilly Burnham, who are shown here with Rear Admiral David Pekoske, USCG and Tim Harrison, president of the American Lighthouse Foundation. Holly grew up at Maine's Wood Island Lighthouse from 1959 to 1963 where her parents Lilly and Laurier were the keepers of the lighthouse. Mrs. Burnham's memories and other stories of Wood Island Lighthouse appeared in the very first issues of Lighthouse Digest. Shortly before his passing, Laurier Burnham was awarded the Coast Guard Life Saving Medal at a ceremony held 32 years after the event. Efforts are now underway to restore the lighthouse by the Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation.
