If you look closely, you will notice in this 1991 photo, the man-made buffer that was put in place in an attempt to stop the erosion. In 1999, in another effort to stop erosion, the Coffin Island Lighthouse Heritage Society spent $70,000 for a large-scale re-enforcement with rocks and infill around
the lighthouse. Located in Liverpool Bay, near Liverpool, Canada, the current tower was built in 1914 and it was automated in 1961. Shortly after automation the keeper’s house was demolished.
