Shown at the base of the tower, in the very early 1900's, standing are Clarence Chape and Mary Brown with some friends on a weekend outing from nearby Bayfield to the lighthouse. Clarence and Mary later married. In the 1970's, Pete Jones, who sent us this image, was the OIC of the Bayfield, Wisconsin Coast Guard Station. While stationed in Bayfield he met Diane Chape, granddaughter of Clarence and Mary, and they eventually married.
