In dire need of repair and restoration the old gashouse that was once used to manufacture acetylene still stands on Sambro Island. Although Sambro Island Lighthouse is still in service as an aid to navigation, its foghorn has been silenced. The tower's red paint is now faded and its base masonry base is starting to crumble.
