Andrew Jackson Davenport and wife Clara Hamann were married in 1874. Andrew became a career employee of the U.S. Lighthouse Service and served as a lighthouse keeper from 1874 to 1921. He started as an Acting 1st Assistant keeper at Waugoshance Lighthouse in the Straits of Mackinaw in 1874 and became 2nd assistant in August of 1883. From there he went to Twin River Point Lighthouse, also known as Rawley Point in Wisconsin in 1883 a position he held until 1888 when he was transferred to the Calumet Lighthouse on the Illinois-Indiana border. In 1911 he became the keeper of the Pentwater Pier Lighthouse in Michigan and finished his career at the Waukegan Lighthouse in Illinois. Photograph courtesy David A. Dietrich.
