Leaning on the railing, the lighthouse keeper at Maryland’s Bloody Point Lighthouse appears to be waiting for his turn to use the station’s privy, which sticks out from the station’s walkway over the Upper Chesapeake Bay near Claiborn, Maryland. Approximately three years ago, under the National Lighthouse Preservation Act, the lighthouse was purchased at auction by a Nevada resident for $100,000. Major Jared A. Smith of the Army Corps of Engineers took this photograph on July 3, 1885.
