The topless Egmont Key Lighthouse as it appears today. In 1944 the lantern room was removed and upper portion of the tower was capped. At that time a DCB-36 rotating lens was installed. The lighthouse was automated in 1989 and the DCB-36 lens was removed and put on display near the lighthouse and a new DCB-24 lens was installed. Egmont Key Alliance wants to install a lantern room back on the lighthouse. Budget cuts may now affect the future of the lighthouse.
