The Plum Island Boathouse was built in 1939, but the old life station building dates back to 1895. The fact that federal bureaucrats chose to abandon the station and not immediately act on finding a caretaker and leaving the buildings to deteriorate is another example an example of government mismanagement of historic properties. Some roof repairs were instituted this past fall.
